RUDI AT REST

As a student of art history I have always been drawn to the strong foreshortening of Mantegna’s Lamentation of Christ.  When I saw a friend drying out after a swim in the same pose it seemed like the perfect compositional choice to depict a Sage.  Much more akin to Manet’s portrayal of the same subject there is no overt mysticism or spirituality.  He is simply a contemporary character completely at ease in his surroundings.

FEAR OF FLYING

A daring acrobat perches high above the ground without a net.  He is precariously balanced, challenging the boundaries between life and death.  Meanwhile, his female companion is soaring effortlessly above the crowds with confidence and grace.  Coincidence?  I think not!
